In the Spring of 2005, Fail Engineering provided detailed AC and DC power and grounding
audits for Roanoke Telephone Company's two Central Offices and twenty-five remote sites. These
audits were performed to verify compliance to Rural Utility Service (RUS), National Electric
Code (NEC), Alabama Public Service Commission (ALPSC) and Telephone Electronics Corporation
(TEC) standards and requirements. The audits also identified any areas that needed corrective
action to ensure the safety of Roanoke Telephone Company personnel. The audits also ensured
that all equipment was protected from lightning, power surge and other potentially dangerous
events. These audits included the preparation of detailed floor plan diagrams of each Central
Office and plot diagrams of all remote locations, measurement of ground resistivity,
inspection of ground fields, inspection of all ground bars, electrical panels, cable entrance
facilities, power and electronic devices, and preparation of a detailed reports listing any
problems and recommending corrective action if necessary.
